The municipality is bordered to the north by the municipality of Viana do Alentejo, to the east by Cuba, to the south and west by Ferreira do Alentejo and to the west by Alcácer do Sal.
Alvito's geographical location allows it easy access by both road and rail.
As for the roads, it should be noted that the village of Alvito is located 173 km from Lisbon, 37 km from Beja, 43 km from Évora, 198 km from Faro and 147 km from Badajoz (Spain). The best road route from Lisbon is via the A2 (25 de Abril Bridge) or the A12 (Vasco da Gama Bridge), following the A6 towards Évora. Then, you should follow the EN254 to Viana do Alentejo, to finish with the passage through the EN257 to Alvito.
